Famous Environmentalists From Around The World
At the heart of everything we do here at Caddyboo is sustainability and taking steps towards a more eco-conscious life. It is in every product that we imagine, builds and release; in every meeting where we discuss future plans, hopes and dreams; and in every conversation- between colleagues, customers or staff. Our high-end golf accessories are created to show this, they are durable yet stylish. We want to be the leaders in sustainable accessories and we want to share those who, in our opinion, are the leaders in voicing environmental issues and ideals. The following people are those whom we admire and feel inspired by.
Greta Thunberg
The first name on many people’s lips when they think of famous environmentalists is Greta Thunberg. For those that have been living under a rock, Greta is a Swedish environment alactivist; she is known for challenging world leaders and to make controversial statements in order to make immediate changes for climate change.
Thunberg initially gained notice because of herage (she’s still only just 20) and her blunt and straight forward way of addressing political leaders and assemblies. She is known for her open criticism of world leaders for their failure to take, in her opinion, action to combat the climate crisis.
Greta is iconic because she has inspired a new, younger generation to think and take action.
Jane Goodall
Jane is a British anthropologist and primatologist - she is the world’s most famous chimpanzee expert and is best known for her 60 year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees. She is known for documenting the human behaviours observed among chimpanzees - including armed conflict.
Jane works extensively on the issues around conservation and animal welfare. She has recently been named as a UN Messenger of Peace and continues her work each day.
John Muir
John, also known as “John of the Mountains” and the “Father of National Parks” was a popular and influential environmentalist, botanist, zoologist, author, glaciologist and early advocator of the preservation of the wild and wilderness in the United States.
John's avid activism was a huge contributing factor that helped to preserve the Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Park. He continues to be an inspiration for the preservation of many other wilderness areas.
Rachel Carson
Rachel was an American marine biologist, writer and conservationist famous for her book Silent Spring which is credited for their ideas on the issues around global warming.
Her other writings include her books The Sea Around Us and The Edge of the Sea which explore ocean life as a whole - exploring everything from the seafloor to the shore.
In her later life, Carson turned her attention to conservation and preservation of the seas with a main focus on the issues surrounding pesticides. Her work brought unprecedented attention and understanding to people in the United States.
Malaika Vaz
Vaz is a National Geographic Explorer and wildlife filmmaker from Goa, India. She is the youngest person ever to have reached the Arctic and Antarctic and she presents shows that follow animals in the wild wherever she goes. Like the other environmentalists in this post, Malaika has a huge passion for our oceans and has witnessed first hand the effect of unsustainable tourism on the marine ecosystem.
Her documentary on the illegal trafficking of Manta Rays across South East Asia made her a household name because of her passion, knowledge and vigor. She was the creator of the Leave No Trace campaign - known for helping to reduce plastic waste on beaches and in the seas.
